Dr. Iraniha is a wonderful surgeon and life saver.  2 years ago to the day, my intestine ruptured and he saved my life.  I had gone into septic shock and was ICU for three days. If it wasn't for him, I would not be here today. Thank you Dr. Iraniha from the bottom of my heart.

I heard about Dr. Iraniha from another doctors and for years I was referring my patients to him. I had a gear experience when I went to see him as a patient. He and his office staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. He has the best bedside manner. He explained all the process from pre Op, surgical process and post op clearly. I am so happy with the result and will encourage all my patients to choose him if they need to see a surgeon. Thank you Dr. Iraniha!

Went to see Dr. Klause for the first time the other day.  She is warm, down-to-earth and I like that her office has a little imaging machine right in there.  The space is shared with another doctor who specializes in pain management.  Klause does a lot of things from skin tags that are cut off in-office to breast surgery and more.

What is an Inguinal Hernia?

Inguinal Hernia is the most common type of hernias. It occurs when tissue protrudes through a weak spot in the abdominal muscles. This results in a bulge which can cause pain especially when coughing, or lifting something. Inguinal hernia repair procedure is very common as it doesn’t improve on its own without surgical intervention.

Symptoms

  • A bulge on one of the sides of the pubic bone.
  • Pain in the groin area while coughing or lifting an object.
  • A burning feeling around the bulging spot.
  • Weakness in the groin.
  • Swelling around the testicles if the protruding intestine moves down into the scrotum.

What causes an Inguinal Hernia?

  • Pressure in the abdomen area.
  • Straining during urination or bowel movement.
  • Chronic coughing or sneezing.
  • A weak spot in the abdominal wall.
  • Strenuous activity & exercise.
  • Pregnancy
  • In many cases the abdominal wall weakness occurs at birth if the abdominal lining doesn’t close properly.
  • Other factors include being male (who are more likely to develop inguinal hernia), family history, age, previous hernia.

Complications

  • Incarcerated Hernia: Sometimes the contents of the hernia can be trapped in the abdominal wall if you aren’t able to push it back in. This condition is serious considering that it could result in cutting of the blood flow to the trapped tissue. Among the signs of an incarcerated hernia are; nausea, vomiting, sudden pain, difficulty moving bowel, & noticing that the hernia bulge turns into red or purple color.
  • Pressure on surrounding tissue: If not quickly treated, inguinal hernias enlarge over time.

Diagnosis

Inguinal Hernias are usually diagnosed through a physical exam to check for the bulge in the groin area. In some cases an abdominal ultrasound or CT scan may be requested to confirm the diagnosis.
